Freedom of Expression Is A Basic Human Right. But, in a lot of countries, singing your song and speaking your mind can land you in prison... or worse.
Ma Than Htay & Ma Tin Tin Oo are two Buddhist nuns and human rights defenders in their early 20s who were arrested for participating in a peaceful demonstration in 2003. Both women are currently serving sentences of 13 years' imprisonment. Over 45,000 other individuals jailed solely for their beliefs or their identity have been released by people like you writing letters, sending e-mails and signing petitions!
At The Lascivious Biddies SXSW Showcase, an Amnesty International representative will be available to answer your questions, and a petition will be available for you to sign!
Have a cocktail, see a great show and make a difference!
If you can't make it to Austin, the petition will also be available:
