The Lascivious Biddies, an all female cocktail pop quartet based in New York City, have earned a reputation for having an energetic and tightly woven live show, full of laughter, expert musicianship and a dash of sentimentality.

At SXSW 2005 the Biddies made a splash with the media and fans alike. "If the Donnas are rock's answer to girl power, then the Lascivious Biddies are jazz's answer to female singularity." (The Austin American-Statesman).

The Washington Post calls them "Manhattan's Hippest Girl Group." According to Time Out New York, the Biddies' second album, Get Lucky, overflows with "angelic vocal harmonies, wordy humor, jazz chops and pop moxie."

CBS Evening News confirms: "The Lascivious Biddies could teach us all a thing or two."

Studio 161 B

Ben Overdoing it Posted by Hello

So last night, The Biddies and Ben all got together to have our annual holiday party. If you don't know it already, Ben is our Production Manager. That means: if you book us on a gig, he's the one who will call you to iron out all the details. He is also the one who answers the Biddy Hotline and responds to many email inquiries.

As of late, he has been obsessing over recording The Biddies for various purposes. For two or three days he has been slaving in his basement setting up what will be commonly known as Studio 161 B in his basement. There are 5 mics, 5 headphones, two phone lines, two monitors & a couple of enormous hard drives. To inagurate the system, we recorded an interview with Brian Ibbott of Coverville. Coverville is a fun podcast that contains exclusively cover material from a variety of artists,. Wed or Thurs of this week, he'll post an exclusively Biddies show! Should be fun. We had imbibed a couple of glasses of wine pre-interview, so we were getting a little sassy. I am not sure if it was the beer, but I think Ben was basking in the glow of the technological light in a way we have never seen before. (see photo)

The Holidays Flu By

Happy New Year Biddy Buddies! By the end of the week, all Biddies will be returned from their holiday vacations, influenza & inflamed optic nerves in tow. It's alwasy hard being far away from those whose presence you come to depend on. I'll admit, The Biddies can get a little co-dependant now and then. It's me, Lee Ann, checking in with you right now, and I'll tell you, I get pretty sad when all my Biddies are scattered accross the globe. I spent the holidays in Omaha, NE and Brooksville, FL. Amanda went to Connecticut and then North Carolina, Saskia to Illinois & California. Deidre rang in the new year from her mother's couch in Idaho.

Are you wondering what we have planned for 2005? Well, I'll tell you. Most of January we will be playing some private parties & out of town shows (Boston, Connecticut). We are also set to start plumbing the depths of our egos in something we'll call "Biddy Lab." We will go into a room for 6-8 hours. In that room we will begin our attempts to write as an ensemble. For most of the history of the band, we have written individually, then brought the songs into rehearsal to arrange together, but not one phrase has ever been written as a group. I can't say yet whether we will actually come up with anything, but I promise you that if we survive it, we will be stronger on the other end.

February 16th, we are thrilled to be playing at Joe's Pub again. We will dedicate much of our energies to rehearsing and promoting that show. Joe's Pub is one of our favorite venues in New York City. If you haven't been there, it has an air of old world glamour that you just don't find that many places. Every time we perform there we feel like Cinderella at the ball, and the audience always has a wonderful night as well.

March will bring a trip to South by Southwest (SXSW) - a music & music business conference in Austin Texas. We hope to eat all the Tex-Mex and BBQ we can find, and meet as many people as we can. We went down there in 2003, and it was truly a galvanizing experience. We attended so many lectures and parties (hard work I know) and at the end of the trip our showcase with Alex Skolnick was standing room only!

After March 23rd at Makor our days are still unplanned as a band, but we have two - count'em TWO! - Biddies getting married in the Spring. We will be busy with bridal and bridesmaidal duties no doubt for two full months.

We hope your Holiday was sparkling and sweet, and hope that we can keep you in a good mood through the dark days of winter...see you soon! xoxoTLB
